Use Derby DB from OpenOffice

  • From downloaded derby archive extract files named derby.jar and derbyclient.jar and place it somewhere on the hard disk. Remember where you put it.
  • Run OpenOffice. Open tools->Options. Go to
    OpenOffice.org->Java. Click on “Class path” button. Click on “Add
    archive”. Find and select the derby.jar and derbyclient.jar files and press “Open”. Press OK in Class Path window. Press OK in options window.
  • Open File->New->Database
  • Select “Connect to an existing database” and choose “JDBC” database. Press Next.
  • In the “Datasource URL” type “derby:” and then (without space)
    the URL for data. 
  • In the “JDBC Driver Class” type: org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver or org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDriver
